After a good night’s sleep in our Airbnb, my friend and I set off at the break of dawn in hopes to catch the sunrise. We started off with a scenic drive on Park Blvd, the main road in and out of Joshua Tree. Every square inch of the park is breathtaking so take your time exploring.
We then ventured off to Barker Dam. Despite our disappointment with a rather dry reservoir, we were fortunate enough to enjoy this entire hike to ourselves. The trail is quite self-explanatory and easy to complete with guided posts starting from the car park.
Once we passed the dam, we entered a flat desert zone home to hundreds of Joshua trees. We continued on this sandy path, which eventually looped us right back to where we started.
Somewhere along this trail we discovered remnants of ancient petroglyphs, so keep your eyes peeled for posted signs – you wouldn’t want to miss anything.
